Session Notes

After having learned that the Heart of Inverness is the power within this Magic Tower that is controlled by Zadir, you say farewell for now to the fire giant and descend back to the forest level.  Upon descending, Gnarly the bear notices an area of magic in the center rocky path of the chamber of fire (green area on map)...

Back in the forest level to lick your wounds and search the paths to be sure there are no more vicious su-monkeys lurking about and camp out to rest your weary bones.  Again, as his spell of Detect Magic fades, Gnarly the bear notices that the rose garden in enchanted in some way.  But you're all too tired to think about that now...

Session Background

Having finally recovered all four pieces of the key to get into Zadir's tower, the party stood before the blue-grey polished door.  Placing the keys into the indention, they glow a soft blue and are joined into one solid piece. With the pieces joined and the indentation is filled, a line appears in the center of the blank wall and the door divides into two halves which spring swiftly apart. Beyond the door is a 40' x 40' room with a 10' high ceiling. The walls, floor, and ceiling are all made of the same smooth, blue-gray metal that the key and doors are fashioned of. You see that the room is bare except for 8 thickly padded reclining chairs.

Suddenly, Captain Vanir's soldiers and Thovin's Black Church companions collapse to the ground asleep.

Behind you, just at the edge of the torchlight, you see the shapes of the soldier Cale and the woman you freed from the ogres who stands there with a malicious grin...

Session Background

Winding your way through the chaotic fighting within the streets of Caladan you pass a number of skirmishes between townsfolk and pirates and between factions of townsfolk settling old scores amongst each other before you come to the gates of the Temple of Mithra.  There you see the heavily armed priests of the temple battling a group of pirates....

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

Session Notes

Covered in cuts, blood and gore, Maximus, Wolf and Arg pick up their two wounded comrades and leave the battle in front of the gate to the Merchant Guild and head deeper into the city of Caladan.

Looking back you see that the battle continues on in front of the gate with Baron Blackmoor, standing atop a heap of bloodied bodies, swinging his cosmic sword almost relishing the carnage.  The Stygians and the pirates all fall back from Blackmoor's forces but fall into vengeful rage of the towsfolk of Calidan who have taken up whatever arms they could find and begin hacking their months of oppressed frustration onto the pirates and their dusky skinned allies.

Before turning the corner down the main thoroughfare you see the gates of the Merchant Guild burst open and the Usurper Utasu with a small handful of his heavily armored guards along with three ogres charge Blackmoor and Capt. Vanir.  The last site you see is a robed figure wreathed in lighting hovering above the fray.

That is the last you see of the battle as you fight your way through the angry throngs of citizens, burning buildings and chaos across town to sanctuary....

Session Notes

Returning triumphantly with a handful of Stygian prisoners after defeating the notorious Stone Giant (without a drop of blood being spilled), the party was welcomed as heroes.  Moral became quite high throughout Captain Vanir's troops as word spread throughout the camp that the slayers of Morak have also defeated an ominous threat to their forces.

Indeed, the bards were already crafting songs to lift the hearts of the brave warriors soon to be in battle.  Songs of brave Maximus the Chaste!  Of the cunning Druid Gnarly Blunderbrush and his magical raven!  Of the fierce Viking Wolfhier! However, not many songs are sung of Thovin of the Black Church, known in some circles as Thovin the lucky for surviving a Stone Giant blow (they do consider him quite a happy chap considering he's of the Black Church and all).

*note that Arg has been hidden away in his tent, brooding in silence since returning from the ruined temple and celebrates not with his friends...???

Wine and ale was drunk throughout the night and many invitations were offered for the heroes to feast as honored guests at tables and around campfires and to recount their infamous confrontation.

The stories, of course, have already been  'embellished' by the storytellers to include Wolf single-handedly lifting the giant above his head and over the cliffs, and of the Dark Gods protecting the mighty Thovin as he stood unmoved from the savage direct blow from the Stone Giant's club (this leads to many men questioning their faith and seeking out spiritual guidance from the dark cleric)!  The renowned virtue of Maximus who resisted the caresses of one thousand women to remain chaste and defeat the Giant (the demand for whores declined sharply that night). Stories of Gnarly the mystical woodsman who takes the shape of wild creatures and beguiles his foes.

The revelry went deep into the night.

With the arrival of Baron Blackmoor and his banner-men the next morning, all turn their firey bloodlust towards the Stygians and pirates occupying Caladan as the final plans for the assault are made...

Session Background

After the recovery of Baron Blackmoor's circlet, he asks that you join his troops for the final assault to remove the usurpers of Caladan.  He asks that you travel south to meet up with Captain Vanir and Blackmoor's army encamped on the Great Coast Road....

You will all need to purchase horses and any other gear you would want / need to go to war.  Only a couple of days have passed since your return from the ruined temple. You're welcome to roll of the carousing chart at the beginning of the session if you want (we all know where that leads)!

Session Notes

Returning the circlet to Baron Blackmoor, he pays it no heed and tosses it to his treasurer.

"Why deal in worthless trinkets when there is blood to be spilled!"  He bellows with a fierce bloodlust in his eyes as he grips the pommel of his mysterious sword.  " Sharpen yer blades lads, for it's time to take back from these desert heathens what is rightfully ours!

It's off to war as the Baron himself plans to lead the attack on Caladan....

Tonight's Background

For months, the troops of Blackmoor have cut off access to lands of Eri'an from the usurpers of Caladan and repelled the Stygian troops back into that port city.  The siege of Caladan has begun.

However, flush with victories and a full mercenary purse fighting as a free-sword for Baron Blackmoor, celebrations were uproarious and rowdy.

From what you can recall from your bleary hangover there was something about freely flowing ale, a handful of whores, spoken insults, thrown punches, overturned tables and the inadvertent burning down of  a beloved White Sheppard Inn.  Was that really Purple Lotus you purchased from Blackstone Alley?  Bah, who knows, your head is throbbing as if the gods themselves were forging weapons in your skull.

Regardless, you lot now stand before a riled Baron Blackmoor to answer for your transgressions....

Campaign Wrap-up

With the death of Gnarly Blunderbrush and the slaying of Gorrokk the Fierce, a deadly red dragon, the wounded and weary party finally clawed their way back to the surface and sweet air of freedom.

Exiting the dragon's cave back into the thick forest within the Howling Hills, it took the rest of the day  to get some sense of where you were.  Figuring you were somewhere east of the ancient ruins and the entrance of the Hobgoblin king's domain, Televon and Wolf carried Gnarly's mutilated body back towards the town of Blackmoor and to the temple of Morpheus.  There the high priest of the dreamweaver raised the druid back from the dead (for a promise of 6,000 gold coins for the temple coffers and an additional 10 tithe from Televon).

Meanwhile Arg, Skwanky and Throkmorton went searching for their horses and cart left back at the ruins.  There they found their cart but their horses had been killed and eaten by three ogres.  These ogres were beat into submission (mostly by Arg, though Skwanky continues to take the credit for it) and were uses as beasts of burden to haul the dragon's hoard out of the cave.

After a number of laborious days hauling a wooden cart weighted down with coin through a gnarly forest and back onto a trail, the party with their enslaved ogres, worked their way back to Blackmoor.

After days of rest, the party informs Lord Blackmoor of the events in dealing with the Hobgoblin king.  With the Hobgoblins no longer being a threat to the lands of Blackmoor, the lord decides that he can aid you in retaking Caladan from the Stygian forces of Kushana.

But that is another tale.....

    Tonight's Background....

Having been lost deep beneath the palace of the slain hobgoblin king, you have been exploring the twisting caves for a way back to the surface for days now.  Discovering a warm underground river, you had tried to work your way up the rapids but the current proved to be too rough, so you followed the river downstream.  The cave walls were dimly lit with an eerie purple fungus and, traveling down the river, you had passed a number of natural 'shelves' above the water.  These proved to be quite useful since being wet, wounded and lost proved to be too much for the psyche of Arg the mighty Half-orc, who went into a state of panic and crawled upon a shelf and refused to go on.  It was here that you decided to rest.  Gnarly sent Tuk the owl on ahead down the river and found another shelf with a cave opening guarded by a lizardman.

You are now well rested and Arg seems to be back to his old self...
